Pickleball Tournament and Porkburger Sale This Weekend In Fairfield

The Lakeside Park Tennis Courts will be full of action this weekend as the Pickleball Players of Wayne County will be hosting a Pickleball Tournament and Porkburger Sale this Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd & 23rd. Saturday morning, the tournament begins at 8am and porkburger sales will start at 10am. Sunday’s tournament action will start at 1pm with porkburger sales starting at 12 noon. Porkburgers will be available for purchase at $4 each. Chips and water will also be available. Pickleball is a combination of ping pong, badminton and tennis, played indoors and outdoors and can be played at any age. Teams from Fairfield, Olney, Carmi, Mt.Carmel and the tri-state area will be competing in the tournament as some teams will be coming from as far away as Evansville and Kentucky.

Frontier Community College will be hosting summer baseball camps in June.  The first camp will be for kids ages 6-9 and will take place Monday, June 24th and Tuesday, June 25th from 9am-12pm both days.  The second camp will be for ages 10-13 on Wednesday, June 26th and Thursday, June 27th from 9am-12pm.  The cost is $100 and you may sign up now by filling out the form using the QR code on the Frontier Community Colleges Facebook page.  For questions, call 618-842-3711.

 

 

 

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The St. Louis Cardinals scored twice in the top of the 12th inning during a 7-6 win over the Miami Marlins at Loan Depot Park. Bryan De La Cruz hit a three-run game-tying home run in the bottom of the eighth to send the game to extras, but Masyn Winn went deep with a two-run shot in the 12th to put St. Louis up for good. Michael Siani also homered in the victory, while Andrew Kittredge earned his first win. The Cards have won five of six and are in second place in the NL Central at 36-and-35. Lance Lynn starts for St. Louis against Miami tonight AT 5:10 PM.

The Chicago Cubs surrendered three runs in the top of the ninth during a 7-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field. Ian Happ gave Chicago a three-run lead when he smoked a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, but Hector Neris gave up a go-ahead three-run home run to Thairo Estrada in the top of the ninth and was charged with his second loss in relief. Michael Busch homered in the losing effort. The Cubs are in last place in the NL Central at 34-and-39. Justin Steele starts for the Cubs against the Giants tonight AT 7:05PM.

The Chicago White Sox look to get back in the win column when they host the Houston Astros at Guaranteed Rate Field tonight. The White Sox dropped two of three on the road against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. Chicago remains at the bottom of the AL Central at 19-and-54. Jonathan Cannon starts for the Southsiders tonight. First pitch is at 7:10PM.

NBA FINALS:

The Boston Celtics are once again sitting alone atop the mountain. The Celtics took down the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 to win Game Five of the NBA Finals and clinch their 18th championship. Boston moves past the Los Angeles Lakers for the most titles in league history. Jayson Tatum led all scorers with 31 points to go along with 11 assists and eight rebounds. Jaylen Brown chipped in with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists. He was also named Bill Russell Finals MVP. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 28 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Kyrie Irving came within one assist of a double-double after scoring 15 points.

 

NHL STANLEY CUP FINALS:
Edmonton at Florida tonight at 7pm
The Panthers are in position to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Florida holds a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series.
