It is with great sorrow. We say goodbye to the earthly body of Robert Joseph Lauer II. of Crossville, Illinois at the tender age of 37. Robert entered the world on September 4, 1986, in Gaylord, MI and from that day forward was an endless source of kindness, love and positive energy. He was born to be outside and loved everything about nature. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camping enthusiast. Once he became a father, his world centered around his sons and he instilled a love for the outdoors, camping and growing things in his boys. Robert has always had jobs working with his hands and could not tolerate being idle. He felt he found his niche working in the oil field following in his grandfather Cobb’s footsteps.

Not one to settle, he soon set his mind to starting and running a business so he would have something he could be proud of for his boys and family. In just a few short years, he had accomplished that. He was passionate about his home life and was the “mechanic of the house”. He coached his son’s soccer and baseball games, as well as taking them to church and introducing them to Jesus. When the phone rang, he answered! If anyone needed help with ANYTHING, he was the first to chip in and the last to quit. He had a huge heart, full of compassion, a kind soul, sparkling blue eyes and a constant and contagious smile! He was always an open hearted and generous spirit.

He was a loving and devoted father and is survived by three sons, Parker Joseph (7), Briar Ashby (5), Granger William (1.5), and eagerly expecting a fourth son in October. They meant the world to him. He was a loving partner to their mother and his fiancée Kimberly Auler, all of Crossville, Ill. Robert was a cherished son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew…. He is survived by his father Robert Joseph Lauer Sr. and his wife Mary Lauer of Gaylord, MI, his mother Lana Jane Cobb of Maunie, IL, his god parents Eddie and Kathy Frashier of Maunie, IL, his brother Franklin Lauer, and his sisters Kristen Hughes and Jennifer Lauer, his stepsister Trisha Williams and stepbrother Travis Scott and many nieces, nephews and countless friends. He loved and held all of them close to his heart spending time with them whether it was playing, working, laughing, during holidays or any day of the week always with a smile on his face.

Although we may no longer physically see Robert, we believe he has left an indelible mark on all of us lucky enough to have known him. He would want us all to remember him with a smile rather than with tears. Through his boys and our memories, he will continue to bring joy to our lives. He will be deeply loved, sorely missed and will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents William and Jenny Lauer, his maternal grandparents Frank and Marilyn Cobb, his aunt Denise Cobb and uncles William Lauer II and Ernie Munker
