Fairfield Community High School Board Meeting From Thursday Night

The Fairfield Community High School Board of Education met for their monthly meeting last (Thursday) night in the FCHS Study Hall.    The meeting began with a public hearing on the FY 24 Amended Budget. There was no public comment.

 

In the financial report, Diana Zurliene noted that $100,000 needed to be transferred to Operations and Maintenance from working cash to close out a negative balance. Also, the Amended Budget was approved.

 

The Resolution providing the issue of $4,125,400 General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2024, of the School District for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund and refunding certain outstanding bonds, providing for the levy of a direct annual tax sufficient to pay the principal and interest on said bonds, and authorizing the sale of said bonds to the purchaser.  The motion was approved.  Board President, Matt Rush was excused from this portion of the meeting as a direct conflict of interest with the purchaser of said bonds.

 

In gym renovation updates, the stairs have been widened in the upper bowl, and the floor has been painted.

 

Student fees will remain the same as last year. FCHS also got approved for the community provision, meaning all students get free breakfast and lunch. The program is a 5-year program that the school can opt out.

 

Registration for the high school was announced from 1pm to 6pm on July 23rd and 10am to 2pm on July 24th. Online registration will be available as well about a week beforehand. Mule Mania has been set for July 30th.

 

The resignation of Kelsey St. Ledger as a teacher was approved. Nate Neal’s resignation as Assistant Basketball Coach and Bobby Wells resignation as an Assistant Softball Coach was approved. Josh Braddock was hired as an Assistant Maintenance Director/Custodian.   A 3-year contract with the District #225 Education Association was approved.    The Board approved the re-employment of all coaches for FY 2025. At the end of the meeting, the Board recognized Diana Zurliene for her work in the interim as Superintendent. Bobby Wells officially takes over July 1st.
