Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Clay County EMS and the Clay City Fire Protection District responded to an area approximately 1 mile north of Bucktown Ln on Hurricane Creek Rd in rural Clay County Saturday morning just after 10:30 for a male that was found unresponsive in a tractor that was in the ditch. The tractor appeared to have collided with a powerline pole causing the lines to fall partially on the tractor. As emergency responders arrived on scene, the power was disabled, and the individual was removed from the tractor and transported to Clay County Hospital. 65-year-old Donald R. Herdes of rural Noble was pronounced dead in the Clay County Emergency Room. Clay County Coroner, Bryce Henry, believes that Herdes was traveling northbound on Hurricane Creek Rd. when he suffered a medical issue causing him to go unresponsive. The tractor he was in continued down the road for a short distance before going off into the ditch and eventually hitting a powerline pole causing the lines to come down.  The Clay County Coronor’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
