Wayne County Continues Meth Related Drug Sweep

Fairfield Police and Wayne County Sheriff’s Officials continue to crack down on illegal possession of drugs in the community.

At 11:06 PM Thursday, Wayne County Sheriff Department and Wayne County Probation conducted a probation check at a residence located on  County Road  2475 East Fairfield. Deputies visited 34-year-old Kathleen M. Butler. Butler was found in possession of a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine. Kathleen was then transported to Wayne County Jail on a Possession of Methamphetamine charge.

On Friday at 2:14 PM, Wayne County Sheriff Deputies with assistance from Fairfield Police Department went to an Illinois Avenue address in Fairfield to serve an arrest warrant.  Law Enforcement located 27-year-old Jamie L. Long in the backyard of the residence. Jamie had an outstanding Wayne County Warrant for Theft. Law enforcement was granted consent to enter the residence. Officers also located 38-year-old Dustin M. Hungate who also had Wayne County, Illinois warrant for Theft. While taking Dustin into custody, he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Officials also found  40-year-old  David W. Woodward David had an Edwards County, Illinois warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. While speaking with subjects probable cause was established to apply for a search warrant. Law enforcement was granted consent by the tenant to search. Law enforcement located approximately 2.5 grams of a substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. Law Enforcement located numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, which also tested positive for methamphetamine.  Long and Hungate faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and a Wayne County Warrant for Theft. Woodward faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and an Edwards County Warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine. All three are being held in the Wayne County Jail.

On Friday at 9:27 PM, Wayne County Sheriff Deputies attempted to conduct a pedestrian stop on West Center Street and South West Fifth Street in Fairfield. The subject then tossed an object over the fence and took off running on foot. Wayne County Sheriff Deputies pursued the subject and after a foot pursuit, 51-year-old Donald E. Wilhite was detained. Deputies then went back to the area where the item was tossed. Deputies located two plastic bags with suspected methamphetamine inside. The bags tested positive and weighed approximately 33.5 grams. Also seized from Donald Wilhite was approximately $380.57. Wilhite faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine More than 15 grams, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver More than 15 grams, and Obstruction of Justice. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail.

On Saturday, Wayne County Sheriff Deputies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a dirtbike on 1725 East and County Road 1000 North Fairfield, Illinois just after 5 AM. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for deputies. After a brief pursuit, the driver, 43-year-old Cody L. Cropper was taken into custody by Wayne County Sheriff Deputies. Cody Cropper attempted to discard evidence into a nearby creek, but the evidence was located by deputies. The item being discarded was a silver container with suspected methamphetamine. Cropper faces counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding of Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Obstruction of Justice. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail
