Fairfield Mules Football Takes the Field

By Wordpress Admin User Aug 7, 2023 | 5:49 PM

Monday was a big day for many athletic coaches around the state of Illinois. Even though there was off and on rain, the show must go on as it was the official first practice for many fall sports in the state.

On Monday, we took a trip to the Train Yard to check in on Mules practice. Around 5 PM, light rain started to fall on the practice field as warmups were beginning. Around 60 student athletes were involved during the first practice at Fairfield.

Practice on Monday and Tuesday of this week is just helmets. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, shoulder pads get added to the mix. On Saturday, it’s full gear for practice.

The Mules in 2022 went 7-4 with their season ending in the 2nd round with a loss to Pana. This  Mules team will have some different faces as Eric Rodgers, Luke Sork, Payton Allen, and Luke Duckworth have all graduated.

Game one of the season will take place on Thursday, August 24th when the Mules open up with Vienna-Goreville. The Mules have won 10 straight in this matchup, dating back to the 2012 season. We will have the action for you on 104.9 FM WFIW and on video stream at wfiwradio.com
