Fairfield Coin Show Held Over Weekend at North Side School

The Fairfield Coin Show held its 53rd Annual Coin Show and Auction on October 8, 2023.  The show was held at the North Side Grade School. Doors opened at 9:00 AM.  There were approximately 150 people who attended the show.  

     Hourly door prizes of a 2024 Red Book were won by Luke Bunting, Lisa Isle, Dan Busler, Dwain Thomason, and Tim Ridgley.

     This year the Annual Show book and scholarships are being dedicated to Larry Kauble.  Larry is also being awarded a Lifetime membership to the Fairfield Coin Club. He  has been a long time member of the coin club .Larry Has been a director of the Fairfield  Coin Club since 2008 that’s 15 years.  He has also been Vice President since 2012.  Larry is a dedicated member of the Fairfield Coin Club he has been an awesome supporter selling raffle tickets for our annual shows.  He also has been very dedicated in setting up and working at the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest Booth.  Larry also uses his talents in getting others to help as well with our projects.  Larry is always ready to help with setting up and tear down of the Annual Show and also any other activity we have.  Larry also does appraisals for the community when asked to.  Larry helps keep the monthly shows running smooth.

       We are proud of our local Annual Show as we offer a place to buy, sell , trade and learn more about coin collecting.  We also offer something the big shows all around the country that do not offer food service so our dealers and members do not have to leave to get food.

     Each year the Fairfield Coin Club awards 2-$500 scholarships to Frontier Community College.  As of this year our club has awarded $27,500 total in scholarships.  This year’s scholarship recipients are Reagan Beckel and Myles Levi.  Both of these students Graduated in May of 2023 from Cisne High School.  Both Reagan and Myles will receive a $500.00 scholarship from the Fairfield Coin Club.  Congratulations and Best wishes on your future endeavors.

   A penny stacking contest was held and this year’s winner was Evan Kessler stacking a stack of pennies 4 inches tall.  Evan won a 2023 Silver Eagle for his efforts.  According to the Guinness book of worlds records the tallest stack of pennies is 6 foot 1 inch.  There was also a Junior auction where each kid was given $60.00 in play money and they were allowed to bid and buy coins to take home with a wide variety of piggy banks with money and proof sets were auctioned off.  All of the Juniors appeared to have a good time with all of the auction lots donated by members of the club.  

      There was an auction of 52 lots sold this date with the Auctioneer being Roberta Marshel and the runners were Danny and Brenna Isle.  

      Food service this year was provided by Lil Buddies of Wayne City with pulled pork sandwiches, chicken and noodles, loaded nachos and hotdogs along with apple pie and drinks.  The food was excellent as always.

      This years raffle prizes were awarded and they are as follows:

1st Prize                              2023 ¼ th ounce Gold won By David Love

2nd Prize                             2023 1/10 th ounce Gold won by 5 Brothers Cafe

3rd Prize                              5- 1 ounce Silver bars won by D. Sisco

4th Prizes                            2023 Silver Eagles (5 Drawings)were won by Curtis Sisco, Dylan Titzer, Dwain Thomason, Larry Easley and Jacob McDowell

5th Prizes                            2023 Silver Eagles (5 Drawings) were won by Jerry Stansfield, Harold Rush, Roger Hale, Dan Busler and Susan Mitchell.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Helen Stewart winning $170.00. This year the club had a money jar and the person guessing closest to the actual amount was Jim Thompson the actual amount in the jar was 72.57 and Jim guessed 72.09 with the difference being .48 cents. 

This year’s officers are as follows:  President Roberta Marshel, Vice President Roberta Fulk, Secretary/Treasurer Josh Isle and Bourse Chairman Roberta Marshel.  Directors at this time are Danny Isle, Maynard Doty, Clint Hayes, Judie Simmons, Dwain Thomason, Larry Kauble and Bryan Morgan.  

      The Fairfield Coin Club uses its money to buy Red Books for all of the schools and libraries in Wayne County.  We also do 2  $500 scholarships a year to Frontier Community College.  We have also donated to  support the hospital, Kids in Motion, to the canine unit of the police Department and other worthy causes as they arise.  

      The club wishes to thank everyone who came to the 53rd Annual Coin Show and Auction.  We would also like to Thank the North Side Grade School for allowing us to use the school gym and Chuck Harl for all of the hard work he puts into helping get things ready and helping on the day of the show.  We could not ask for a better person than Chuck.  Also we would like to Thank Lil Buddies for providing food at our show.
