James Clay “Jim” Rayburn, 75, of Fairfield, passed away at 5:30 AM on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Aperion Care in Fairfield.
Jim was born December 5, 1947, in McLeansboro, IL, to George and Bonnie (Smith) Rayburn. He grew up in the Wayne City Boyleston area until he moved with his family to Oklahoma when he was a young man. Jim married his wife Kathy Legg, and she survives.
Jim was a nurse at Fairfield Memorial Hospital where he worked for 47 years until he retired in 2013. He enjoyed fishing, hunting arrowheads, and nature walks in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife Kathy (Legg) Rayburn and his three daughters, Cheryl Lynn Means, Angela Kay (Ron) Koontz and Candace Renee Walker, six grandchildren Bryan (Chrissy) Bassett, Johnna Means, Madeline Walker, Corinne Walker, Maggie Koontz, and Jake Walker, two great grandchildren, Clay Patrick and Rylee Gill, two step great grandchildren Abbi and Alex Marshel, three brothers Raymond (Sandy) Rayburn of Arkansas, Dean (Carol) Rayburn of Oklahoma, Allen Rayburn of Cisne, IL, and two sisters Judy Hooper Cisne, IL and Evelyn Westfahl of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Jim Rayburn will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, November 16th at the Johnson and Vaughan Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Victory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Community of Christ Church and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
