City of Fairfield Approves Contractor for Repair Work on South First Street

Over the summer, there were several boil orders in the city of Fairfield. Those boil orders have made South First Street in Fairfield a rough ride.

During Tuesday’s Fairfield City Council meeting, the council approved pavement patching work that is up to state standards.

According to Fairfield Mayor Gary Moore, the city had had to make in the neighborhood of 9 emergency repairs to the roadway after issues with the water issues in the area. The affected area would be from the K&M Diner to the Hanna House.

City officials reported 4 bids for the project. The lowest bid on the project was $57,755 from Kenny Contractors Incorporated of Raymond, Illinois. The funding for the project would come from motor tax funds.

One question that was asked involved the timetable: According to Mayor Moore, it is dependent on the weather. Since the work is concrete work, Mayor Moore states that the work can’t happen if the temperature is below 40 degrees.

Mayor Moore commented that in conversation with officials with Connor and Connor Engineering that it was expected for the patching work to be in the neighborhood of $104,000 to $110,000.

The City approved the bid from Kenny Contractors unanimously.
