William Joshua Schlick, 48, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Josh  was born October 18, 1975 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of William Francis and Marlee (Frentzen) Schlick. He married Amanda Jill Fritschle on May 28, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney.

Josh grew up in the St. Louis area where he spent his childhood playing soccer. In fact, every time he drove his family through St. Louis, he pointed out every soccer field that he had ever played on. Josh was a wonderful goalie and that got him a scholarship to MacMurray College in Illinois.

Soccer was an important part of his life, but the best thing about it was that he made lifelong friendships. He stayed connected to his childhood friends and went on many camping, skiing and other adventures over the years.

He was blessed with many wonderful friends both old and new. He had a good sense of humor and was known to have a “Dad Joke” or two to lighten any mood.

Josh met his wife in 2001. At the time, he was working as a bike patrol officer for Barnes Jewish Hospital. He decided he liked that line of work and joined the police academy. His first job as a police officer was in Maplewood, MO. He worked there for 3 years and then moved to Olney in 2005 to marry Amanda. He was hired at the Olney Police Department and worked there for 17 years. 15 of those years he was a Sergeant. It’s a wonderful department, and they have been so good to his family during his illness.

Josh was a member of the Olney Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police and the Oddfellows. Josh enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. Above everything, he enjoyed watching his children play sports and do all their activities. He was a very proud Dad. He enjoyed talking about his kids and showing people videos and sharing stories about them. His kids are going to miss him deeply, but they know he is in Heaven and that gives them peace.

Josh had a very short battle with stomach and esophageal cancer. He was so brave during all of his treatments. He fought hard, but God had other plans for him.

Josh was overwhelmingly humbled by all the acts of kindness and love shown towards him and his family during his sickness. Josh will be missed and remembered forever by all that knew him. We are all so thankful for the promises of Heaven.

Josh Schlick is survived by his wife, Amanda Schlick of Olney; children, Vivian, Aida, and Grant Schlick of Olney; father, William F. Schlick of St.Peters, MO; sister, Leanna Schlick of St. Peters, MO; aunt, Ann Frentzen of State College, PA; mother-in-law, Cindy Fritschle; sisters-in-law, Heather (Jonathan) Knox, Samantha (Tim Steele) Fritschle, and Abby (Ryan) Holdrieth; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlee Schlick and father-in-law, Jeff Fritschle.
