An overnight fire has destroyed a Colony West home belonging to Carmi-White County High School Athletic Director Kurt Simon and his wife Stacy, a teacher in the school system as well. Fire Chief Daniel Ballard says it was 2:19am when crews arrived to an already engulfed blazed. He says flames were already through the roof by the time firefighters arrived on scene and high winds made battling the flames difficult. Norris City and Enfield fire departments assisted with mutual aid. The fire resulted in a total loss despite crew efforts. No cause has been determined.
