During the Boys Class 1A State Track & Field Championships at EIU in Charleston, three area athletes made the podium to place in the Top-8. Trent Bliss of Fairfield finished 8th in the High Jump by clearing the bar at 6’ 2”.   Mitchel Edwards of Carmi won the 1A State High Jump event with a leap of 6’ 6.75” while Ben Roedl of Altamont placed third with a jump of 6’ 5.5”.  Mitchel Edwards is just the 3rd Carmi Bulldog to ever win an individual State Championship in Track & Field.

The Mt Carmel Aces came from behind to edge Nashville 3-2 to win the Championship of the Class 2A Boys High School Baseball Sectional. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The Aces will now face Effingham St Anthony on Monday in the 2A Super-Sectional game, which will be played at SIU-Carbondale. That game will begin at 2:00pm.

CARTERVILLE WINS SECTIONAL:
The Carterville Lady Lions are now 35-1 after shutting out Johnston City 9-0 to win the Class 2A Girls High School Softball Sectional Championship. The Lions will now advance to play in the Super-Sectional against Newton on Monday.
