Several Fairfield Mules football players will be suiting up again, this time for the 2024 Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-Star Football Game Friday night at 7pm at Murphysboro High School. Players in the game representing Fairfield include; Trey Mason, Latrael Snyder, Jay Snyder, Vega Stanley and Bronson Rilea. The BLUE team which the Mules are part of are currently practicing all week long in the evening in Mt. Vernon preparing for the game Friday night. Coach Justin Townsend of the Mules and Coach Joe Clark of the Eldorado Eagles are Co-Chairs of the All-Star Game which represent 30 schools across Southern Illinois all the way over to the Metro East. Gates will open at 5pm with food trucks available and the concession stand will also be open. Admission to the game is $7

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The St. Louis Cardinals have dropped back to back games after falling to the Houston Astros 8-5 at Minute Maid Park. Andre Pallante was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on six hits over three innings pitched. Alec Burleson, Masyn Winn and Nolan Gorman each slugged a home run. St. Louis is now third in the NL Central at 28-and-31 and will look to salvage its series finale this afternoon at 1:10 pm.

A new chapter in the Crosstown Classic was written Tuesday night. The Cubs battled back to beat the White Sox 7-6 from Wrigley. The team trailed by a run in the bottom of the eighth until Ian Happ drove in a pair of runs to take the lead. Hector Neris slammed the door shut in the ninth to complete the comeback. Christopher Morel and Patrick Wisdom blasted two-run homers as Chicago improved to 30-and-31. The Cubbies are still second in the NL Central. Lenyn Sosa clubbed a two-run homer for the White Sox. Luis Robert Jr. also went deep with a solo shot, while Jordan Leasure took the loss in relief. The Sox have lost 12 straight and are last in the AL Central at 15-and-46. The two-game set wraps up tonight at 7:05pm.
