MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:

The St. Louis Cardinals are preparing for the second half of the 2024 season. The Cards are in second place in the NL Central with a 50-and-46 record at the All-Star Break. They are just four-and-a-half games behind first-place Milwaukee, and they currently hold the second NL Wild Card spot. St. Louis returns to action against the Braves tomorrow night.

The Chicago Cubs are also set to return the second half of the season. The Cubs are in last place in the NL Central with a 47-and-51 record at the All-Star Break. However, they are just eight-and-a-half games behind first-place Milwaukee, and three-and-a-half games out of an NL Wild Card spot. Chicago returns home to take on Arizona tomorrow.

The Chicago White Sox are trying to upgrade their infield. The team signed Nick Senzel to an MLB deal yesterday. Senzel was hitting .209 with seven home run and 18 RBI in 64 games with Washington this season. Chicago designated infielder Danny Mendick for assignment and sent Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A in corresponding moves. The 27-and-71 White Sox are back in action against the Royals tomorrow.

Caitlin Clark Sets WNBA Single-Game Assist Record:

Caitlin Clark is setting yet another record. The Indiana Fever rookie dished out 19 assists against the Dallas Wings Wednesday. That broke the previous single-game record of 18 assists set by Courtney Vandersloot in 2020. Clark also finished with 24 points in Indiana’s loss to Dallas 101-93. She will next take part in the WNBA All-Star Game as part of Team WNBA on Saturday in Phoenix.

WNBA New Media Deal:

The increasingly popular WNBA is inking a new media rights deal. The the league is set to receive around 2.2-billion dollars over the next 11 years in rights fees from its new deals. That means that the WNBA will be bringing in an average of 200-million dollars per season and will be able to make as much as six-times the amount of its current contracts. The national media rights agreements are with ESPN, NBC and Amazon, which will each have their own WNBA packages. The league’s current media deals will expire following the 2025 season.

USA Basketball Cruises Past Serbia In Abu Dhabi

The United States cruised to a big victory in their third contest of the USA Basketball Showcase. Team USA took down three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic [[ yo-kitch ]] and Serbia 105-79 in an exhibition game in Abu Dhabi. Stephen Curry had 18 points in his first 11 minutes and finished with a game-high 24 points while shooting 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Bam Adebayo came off the bench to total 17 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Edwards finished with 16 points and three steals. The Americans are now 3-and-0 during their warmup tour for the Paris Olympics. Jokic posted 16 points and 11 boards for Serbia in the losing effort. Team USA will now square off against South Sudan on Saturday in London.
