FALL PARENT ATHLETE MEETING AT FAIRFIELD HIGH SCHOOL:

The Fall parent & athlete meeting will be held Tuesday, July 30th on the FCHS bleachers at The Train Yard (weather permitting). The event will kick off at 7pm with general information from FCHS Athletic Director, Justin Townsend followed at 7:15pm with break out sessions to meet with fall coaches regarding team rules and practice schedules. Attendance IS required if you plan to participate in a Fall sport. If you can’t attend, please email Mr. Townsend at jtownsend@fchsmules.com

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The Cardinals plated a ninth-inning run to plunder the Pirates and hand Paul Skenes his first MLB loss with a 2-1 win from Pittsburgh. Alec Burleson drove in Michael Siani in the top half of the frame and Ryan Helsley notched his major league-leading 33rd save of the season after striking out the side in the bottom-half. Nolan Arenado slugged a solo shot as St. Louis has won three-of-five to remain second in the NL Central at 53-and-48. St. Louis at Pittsburgh this morning with first pitch at 11:35.

Cardinals Sign Top Draft Pick:

The St. Louis Cardinals have locked down their first-round draft pick. The team signed shortstop JJ Wetherholt to his first professional contract yesterday. The Cardinals picked Wetherholt out of West Virginia with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft earlier this month. Wetherholt hit .331 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 36 games with the Mountaineers last season.

The Chicago Cubs left ten runners on base during a 1-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field. The Cubs went 0-for-five with runners on scoring position and gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Jameson Taillon was charged with his fifth loss after allowing a run on four hits in seven-and-a-third innings. The Cubs are in fourth place in the NL Central at 49-and-54. They send Justin Steele to the mound against Milwaukee this afternoon at 1:20.

The Chicago White Sox are on a nine-game losing streak following a 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers. The Sox gave up two runs in the bottom of the first and trailed the rest of the way. The Southsiders remain in last place in the AL Central at 27-and-76. Chicago plays Texas tonight at 7:05.

Blackhawks And Bulls Plan To Rebuild Area Around United Center:

The area around the United Center is getting a makeover. The Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks announced a 10-year plan that will try to revamp the surrounding land. The “1901 Project” will include a music hall, a park, and retail space. The seven-billion dollar project is expected to get underway next Spring.
