John Thad Glass, 82, of Florissant, MO (formerly of McLeansboro)

John Thad Glass departed this life on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, having reached the age of 82 years. John was born in Marion, Indiana on July 29, 1941, son of John Ambrose Glass and Ada Douglas Dial. On August 7, 1976, he was united in marriage to Judy Glock in Washington Park, Illinois and two sons came to bless the union.

John is survived by his wife, Judith Gail Glass (nee Glock) of Florissant, MO; by his sons, Daniel John Glass and wife, Tina, of Brentwood, MO, and Philip Aaron Glass of Florissant, MO; by his grandchildren, Jude Glass, Ada Glass, Eva Glass, and Luke Glass of Brentwood, MO; by his sister, Nancy Rowland and husband, John Rowland, of McLeansboro, IL; by one sister-in-law, Shirley Kirkpatrick, of Florissant, MO; by one nephew, Nathan Rowland, of McLeansboro, IL; and by one niece, Katie Rowland, of Enfield, IL.

John was proceeded in death by his parents, John Ambrose Glass and Ada Douglas Dial Whittington; and by one brother-in-law, Charles Kirkpatrick.

John was raised in Hamilton County, Illinois in Flannigan Township and graduated from McLeansboro Township High School in 1959. He worked on the family farm, as a Roughneck in the oil fields of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio; and in the United Auto Workers Union at the Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Missouri. He retired from Chrysler after 28 years of service and then drove a school bus for the Special School District in St. Louis County. John was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He both attended and the drove the church bus at Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO, for over 30 years. His favorite things were “tinkering” around the yard and enjoying evenings at the farm around a good campfire listening to the bugs chirp and the frogs croak. John was known for his hard work, kindness to others, gentle spirit, friendly nature, and generosity. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation is to be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00am-1:00pm at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL with a graveside service following the visitation at Cartwright Cemetery in Hamilton County, IL.
