MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The Cardinals outlasted the Brewers 7-4 in 12 innings from Milwaukee. Michael Siani drove in a pair of runs with a single and Alec Burleson hit a sacrifice fly as part of a three-run top of the 12th. Ryan Helsley earned the win after giving up an unearned run over the final two frames. Paul Goldschmidt slugged a solo shot and finished with three RBI as St. Louis remains five-and-a-half games behind the Braves for the last NL Wild Card spot at 70-and-69. St. Louis sends Sonny Gray to the mound against Milwaukee tonight.

The Chicago Cubs had just five hits during a 5-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. The Cubs allowed two runs on the third and three runs in the seventh during the losing effort. Kyle Hendricks fell to 3-and-11 after surrendering two runs on five hits in five innings. The Cubs remain four-and-a-half games back of Atlanta for the final NL Wild Card spot at 71-and-68. Shota Imanaga starts for the Northsiders against Pittsburgh tonight.

The Chicago White Sox are on a 12-game losing streak following a 9-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. The White Sox gave up seven runs in the first two innings and trailed the rest of the way. Nick Nastrini was charged with his seventh loss after surrendering four earned runs and three unearned runs on four hits in one-and-two-thirds innings. The Southsiders are in last place in the AL Central at 31-and-109. They send Jonathan Cannon to the mound against Baltimore tonight.

NHL NEWS:
The St. Louis Blues were dealt a massive blow yesterday. The team announced that defenseman Torey Krug will miss the 2024-25 regular season due to an ankle injury that requires surgery. The blue-liner was diagnosed with a pre-arthritic injury in the ankle back in July. Krug had four goals and 35 assists in 77 games with St. Louis last year.
