BOY’S GOLF FROM THURSDAY
Black Diamond Conference Championship:
The Edwards County Lions Boys Golf Team won the Black Diamond Conference Championship with a team score of 310, defeating second place Hamilton County by 9 strokes. Mason Smiley of the Lions tied for first with a 2 over par score of 73. Smiley then won the first playoff hole to take Medalist honors. Fairfield Mules Jake Easton finished 8th and made the All BLack Diamond Conference team The Mules finished 5th overall as a team.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:
The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered five runs in the bottom of the eighth during a 10-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Lars Nootbaar, Paul Goldschmidt, Ivan Herrera, and Pedro Pages all homered in the losing effort. The Cardinals are in third place in the NL Central at 81-and-78. Miles Mikolas starts for St. Louis against San Francisco this evening.

The Chicago Cubs begin their final series of 2024 when they host the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field today. Chicago is in second place in the NL Central at 81-and-78. Jameson Taillon starts for the Cubs today. First pitch is at 1:20PM.

The White Sox continue to evade being on the wrong side of history after shutting out the Angels 7-0 to sweep their three-game series. Chicago is now 39-and-120, still tied with the 1962 Mets for the most losses in the modern era. Garrett Crochet starts for the White Sox against the Tigers tonight.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:
The number-21 Illinois Fighting Illini look to stay undefeated when they visit number-eight Penn State at Beaver Stadium tomorrow. The Illini took down Nebraska 31-24 in overtime last Friday. Illinois is 4-and-0 overall and 1-and-0 in the Big Ten. Penn State has won four of its last five games against the Illini. Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 6:30PM.
