The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is enhancing accessibility for electric vehicle (EV) owners by installing 40 EV charging stations at state parks and historic sites across Illinois. Currently, three chargers have been installed within 60 miles of St. Louis, and another is located at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area. Additional stations will be available soon, including one at Giant City State Park in Jackson County
IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie emphasizes that these installations support Illinois’ goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050. Governor JB Pritzker aims to have one million EVs on Illinois roads by 2030, and the new charging stations, alongside federal funding for highway stations, are key to achieving this target.
