Vera M. Craig, age 92, of Flora

Vera M. Craig, age 92, of Flora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2024, at Flora Gardens Care Center.

She was born January 20, 1932, in Flora, the daughter of Richard Olin “R.O.” and Cora Elizabeth (Schmidt) Sparlin. She was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” E. Craig on May 6, 1964, in Chicago, and together they shared 51 wedding anniversaries until his passing on February 16, 2016.

Vera and Tom lived in Chicago for many years, where she worked in various roles, including as a retail clerk, cashier, and bookkeeper. She was a former member of the Clay County Hospital Auxiliary, Home Extension, and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Illinois. Vera enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and caring for her garden. Her kindness and willingness to help others will remain in the hearts of those who remember her.

She is survived by her sister, Clara Booth of Flora; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Craig; 5 brothers, Glenn, Charles, Richard “Bruce”, Rex, and Benjamin; and 5 sisters, Dorothy, Virginia, Kathryn, Martha, and Edyth.

A graveside ceremony followed by interment will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Those who wish to attend are asked to arrive directly at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Hospital Auxiliary or to any charity of the donor’s choice, and these will be accepted through the funeral home.
