James Leonard “Jim” Buttry, 91, of Norris City, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on February 7, 1933, in White County, Illinois, the son of Roy and Lola (Taylor) Buttry. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War. He owned and operated Buttry Tastee Freez where he was famous for his Big Jim Burger.Jim later worked as a rural mail carrier until retirement. He loved being outdoors, and was on his tractor all the time. Jim enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with his cousins, Joe and Ella Rose Newcomb.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Elaine Musgrave of Evansville, IN, and Susan (Jim) Renshaw of Carmi, IL; four bonus daughters, Claudie (John Mike) Parson, Pascalle (Brian) Bippert, Viviane (Pat) Bain and Erika (Carey) Kirby; four grandchildren, Misty (Jared) Lafollette, Brooke (David) Douglas, Jessica (Nick) Simpson and Alan Stratton; eight bonus grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents; a brother, Roy Buttry, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Mike Musgrave.
A memorial visitation for Jim Buttry will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jim’s memory to the White County Senior Center, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Donations may also be mailed to 609 W.
