William Edward Danis, 71, of Mt. Vernon, IL passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at his home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on December 15, 1952 in Chicago, IL to Robert & Barbara Danis.
William worked as a diesel mechanic, and was a United States Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War era. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and took many road trips to Daytona, Sturgis, and other bike rallies. He enjoyed fixing & restoring classic cars. He was previously stationed in Hawaii and fell in love with the terrain. He always dreamed of going back to visit again. He was known for being a “dreamer.” He liked to make many plans for the future and enjoyed talking about his plans. He loved to talk, whether it was to a friend or a stranger. He especially love discussing classic cars. He was also an animal lover and took in many stray cats and rescued many shelter dogs.
William is survived by 3 siblings: Lynn (Dominic) Kazwell of Monroe, NC; Robert (Linda) Danis of Bethlehem, GA; and Michele (Faye) Danis of Mt. Vernon, IL; 5 nieces & nephews, 11 great nieces & nephews and one on the way, 2 great great nieces, and close friends Chris Collins, Bill Perkins, and Dan Ellison.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Barbara Danis.
Per William’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and graveside military honors will be held at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, IL at a later date.
