Donald Ray “Don” Hildreth, 80, of Carmi

Donald Ray “Don” Hildreth, 80, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Wabash Senior Living in Carmi, Illinois. He was born on March 17, 1944, in Granite City, Illinois, the son of Gentry Floyd and Louise V. (Topel) Hildreth. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in Europe. He married Laura Mae Mattox on November 4, 1972, and she survives. Don worked for the City of Carmi for 25 years before retiring as Assistant Foreman of the Street Department. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He also was a member of the American Legion for a time where he served as a past Commander.

In addition to his wife, Laura Hildreth of Carmi, IL., Don is survived by his children, Robert Wayne Hooper of Weirsdale, FL. and Dana Jo Ballard of Carmi, IL; three grandchildren, Amber Dawn VanMatre, Christina Ballard and Jason Ballard; seven great-grandchildren, Danyon Farris, Zachary Brown, McKinley Ballard, Ethan Ballard, Gracie Ballard, Alexis Belka and Raylan Ballard.

Funeral services for Don Hildreth were private with burial at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Donations may also be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.
