Captain Nathan Douglas, the Illinois State Police Troop 9 Commander, recently reported the outcomes of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols conducted in Effingham, Clay, Hamilton, Jasper, Marion, and Richland counties throughout October. These patrols aimed to prevent and respond to impaired driving and violations related to the illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.
During this period, state troopers issued 2 DUI citations, 1 drug-related citation, 14 citations for registration offenses, and 9 for driver’s license violations. In total, there were 22 citations or arrests made, along with 122 warnings issued.
Alcohol and drug impairment is linked to over 47% of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, with an alcohol-related traffic fatality occurring every 39 minutes across the United States. The ACE program enhances law enforcement efforts to remove dangerous DUI offenders from the roads and is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
