The White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Illinois Route 1 near County Road 1350 North around 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon that was triggered by an automated crash detection from Life360. Emergency responders, including deputies and Carmi city police officers, found five individuals injured at the scene. One of the vehicles, a Gray Ford Escape driven by Chris Lochard from Madison, IN with two other Indiana residents in the vehicle was smoking, prompting the use of fire extinguishers by officers.
The collision involved a Gray Chevy Tahoe driven by 46-year-old Elizabeth Quillman of Norris City, with an unknown passenger. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Ford Escape was traveling southbound when it drifted into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Tahoe, just off the roadway.
All five injured individuals were airlifted to regional trauma centers for treatment. White County Ambulance Service, Edwards County Ambulance Service, Carmi Fire Department, and five helicopters from AirEvac Lifeteam were dispatched. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
