Winter wheat planting is nearly complete, with 89% of the crop emerged and 75% rated in good to excellent condition, according to this week’s USDA Crop Progress and Condition Report.
For the week ending November 17th, farmers had 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Statewide, the average temperature was 47.6°F 6.3°F above normal while precipitation averaged 0.38 inches, falling 0.27 inches below the normal.
Topsoil moisture levels were rated at 4% very short, 18% short, 69% adequate, and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture levels were reported as 5% very short, 41% short, 50% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Winter wheat emergence reached 89%, outpacing the five-year average of 83%. The condition of the crop was rated at 2% very poor, 3% poor, 20% fair, 72% good, and 3% excellent.
