Pender Savage, 89 of Fairfield

89 year old Fairfield resident, Pender Savage passed away at 9:35 a.m. in the Skilled Care Unit of Fairfield Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Pender was born August 29, 1935 in Burnt Prairie, Illinois to Pender L and Mary (O’Dell) Savage. Pender married Velda Gwaltney on July 8, 1957 in Valparaiso, Indiana. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2022. He worked 13 years for the Belt Railroad and was a life-long Teamster’s truck driver for various truck lines. Pender was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Illinois and prior to that, the Liberty Baptist Church in Burnt Prairie, Illinois. For several years he drove the Fairfield Baptist Church bus.

Pender enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a vintage car show enthusiast and enjoyed restoring his 1955 red Ford F-100 pickup truck. He won Best in Show at the 2024 Fairfield Fall Fun Fest Car Show.

Pender is survived by his two sons; David (Donna) Savage of Fairfield, Illinois and Bill (Brenda) Savage of St. Clair, Missouri. One daughter; Julie (Jeff) Thompson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Five grandchildren; Rhiannon (Bobby) Bridgeman of Fairfield, Ian (Whitney) Savage of Evansville, Indiana, Ryan Savage of St. Clair, Missouri, Travis (Natalie) Thompson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Trenton Thompson of Evansville, Indiana. Six great grandchildren; Jace, Logan and Garrett Bridgeman, Ryan Vaught and Mattingly Brock, and newborn Jack Thompson. One sister; Valeda (Ben) White of Fairbury, Illinois.

Pender will be greatly missed by his many neighbors, friends, family, care-giver Heidi and caregiver/niece Maralyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Velda, step father and two brothers; Louis and Charlie Savage.

Funeral services for Pender Savage will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. to service time at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Fairfield and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home.
