William Ronald “Ron” Kennedy, 77, of Wayne City

William Ronald “Ron” Kennedy, 77, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Deaconess Illinois Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Ron was born on November 19, 1947 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Robert & Joyce (Thomas) Kennedy.  On June 2, 1970 he married Darlene (Richardson) Kennedy, who survives.

Ron worked on a drilling rig in the oil fields for several years, and also had worked at Airtex in Fairfield, IL and as a truck driver.  He was also a United States Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War.  He was a Freemason and a member of the Orel Lodge #759 in Wayne City, IL.  He was also a member of the VFW Post #4535 in Fairfield, IL.  He loved hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed going camping.  He was a hard worker and a good provider for his family.

Ron is survived by his wife Darlene Kennedy of Wayne City, IL; 2 sons: Ryan Kennedy of Alton, IL and Blake Kennedy of Wayne City; a granddaughter Mallory Kennedy of Charleston, SC; a brother-in-law Irwin Richardson & wife Judy of Catlin, IL; 3 nieces, and 1 nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents William & Joyce Kennedy, his father-in-law & mother-in-law Neal & Fern Richardson, and 1 sister.

Per Ron’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and a graveside service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society of Illinois, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
