Lawrence “Larry” Laverne Wiggins, of Calera, Oklahoma

Lawrence “Larry” Laverne Wiggins, of Calera, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, in McKinney, Texas, at the age of 70.  He was born on May 5, 1954, in Spokane, Washington.  Larry’s life was marked by a spirit of adventure and a deep interest in the world around him.

Larry proudly served his country in the US Navy as an auxiliary mechanist’s mate aboard the USS Sunfish fast-attack nuclear submarine, an experience that left a lasting impression on him and forged lifelong friendships with fellow veterans.  His commitment to his fellow servicemen continued through his active involvement with the USS Sunfish Veterans group.

After his naval service, Larry became a warehouse manager for Walgreens where his hard work and dedication were well-respected by his colleagues.  Larry’s zest for life was evident in his love for music, reading and attending concerts.  He was a skilled chess player and an enthusiastic billiards player, often sharing these passions with his friends and family.  Above all, Larry cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

 

Larry’s legacy is carried on by his loving life partner of 20 years, Janna Hooper; his sons, Larry Wiggins and wife Crystal of Ft. Worth, Texas and James Wiggins of Carmi, Illinois; his honorary daughters, Mikisha Davis and husband Bryce of Austin, Texas, Amity Smith and husband Charlie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Adri Starnes and husband Rowdy of McKinney, Texas; his 13 grandchildren; his great-granddaughter; and his 8 nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his brothers, David Wiggins and wife Carol of Macedonia, Illinois and Doug Wiggins and wife Angie of Dahlgren, Illinois; and his sister, Vickie Hughes of McLeansboro, IL.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Lawrence and Beverly (Hagfeldt) Wiggins of McLeansboro, IL.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, IL. with Pastor Bill Hampton officiating.

Burial will follow at Old Springer Cemetery, McLeansboro, IL.

 

Harre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
