ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES RELEASES DEER HARVEST TOTALS

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources reported that hunters harvested a preliminary total of 82,496 deer during the seven-day firearm deer season, which ended on December 8. This figure represents an increase from the 76,494 deer harvested in the 2023 season.

 

In Wayne County, hunters took 1,733 deer. Nearby counties reported the following totals: Edwards County with 481, Hamilton County with 1,214, White County with 838, Wabash County with 238, Clay County with 1,552, Marion County with 1,823, Richland County with 771, Saline County with 919, and Gallatin County with 454. Randolph County led the state with 2,299 deer harvested, followed closely by Adams County with 2,291 and Jefferson County with 2,083.

 

Upcoming deer hunting opportunities in Illinois include the late-winter antlerless-only and chronic wasting disease seasons, which will take place in designated counties from December 26th-29th and January 17th-19th, as well as the archery deer season, which continues through January 19th.
