Marie Rutger, 92 of Fairfield passed away at 5:53 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on October 4, 1932, in Wayne County to Frances and Alta Grace (Porter) Hilliard, she had worked for the Wayne County Farm Bureau in her early years and later retired from WADI Headstart. Marie had been an active volunteer for many programs, including the Frontier Literacy Program, Clothesline, Fairfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Holy Sews.
Marie is survived by her daughter Alta (Carl) Spicer of Sims, sons David (Kathy) Rutger of Fairfield and Carson (Sherry) Rutger of Albion, daughter in law Rhonda (Jerry) Peeples of Keenes, 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle Rutger, son Dale Rutger, and sister Margaret.
Funeral services for Marie Rutger will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Oak Valley Church west of Geff, IL. Burial will follow in Oak Valley Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9am Saturday morning until the time of service at the church. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home and the funeral service.
