Letha Marie Michels, age 79, of Carmi and formerly of Cowling

Letha Marie Michels, age 79, of Carmi and formerly of Cowling, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Hamilton County Hospital in McLeansboro. She was born on Thursday, May 3, 1945, in Wabash County a daughter of Leo and Caradena (Stadler) Higginson. On September 16, 1961, Letha married Charles Raymond Michels in Mt. Carmel and together they shared more than 63 years of marriage.

Letha was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who put her family first. One of her greatest accomplishments was her commitment to join her husband in furthering their education as they studied and graduated together with their General Education Diplomas. Over the years she and Charlie also volunteered at the Cowling Community Center. Letha also enjoyed quilting and spending time with her cats. She was a woman of faith in Jesus and a member of the Cowling Free Methodist Church.

Along with her husband Charlie Michels of Carmi, Letha is survived by, her children, John David Michels of Calera, AL, Leigh Ann (Kim) Malone of Carmi and Dena (Charles) Siegert of Grayville; grandchildren, Brandon Siegert of Grayville, Amelia (Dan) Allen of Champaign, IL, Haley (Nick) Brown of Evansville, IN, Mitchell (Hailey) Malone of Grayville, Mallory Michels of Safety Harbor, FL and Johnna Michels of Gilbertsville, KY; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Charli Brown, Kolson Malone and Maxwell, Wren, Griffin and Leo Allen; sister, Lois (Jim) Helm of Cowling and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Don Higginson, Gordon Higginson, Bernard Higginson, Phyllis Hayes and Dolores Elliott.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in the chapel at Roberts and Cook Funeral Service, 101 Edgewood Lane, Carmi, IL, with Rev. Mick Laflin officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Antioch Cemetery in Cowling. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Roberts and Cook Funeral Service of Carmi has been entrusted with the arrangements.
