The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has indefinitely suspended the nursing license of 38-year-old, Attila J. Caldwell, a former House Charge Nurse at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. This decision comes as Caldwell awaits trial on several drug and firearms charges related to his arrest in April.
On December 31st, IDFPR officials announced the suspension, which will last for a minimum of six months, due to Caldwell’s possession of methamphetamine. Last September, the state filed a petition for sanctions against him after he reportedly tested positive twice for Oxycodone, amphetamines, and methamphetamine during mandatory pretrial drug screenings.
Caldwell’s trial is set for January 21st, where he faces five felony and three misdemeanor charges. His legal troubles began when police executed a search warrant at his residence, uncovering 15 firearms, ammunition, digital scales, suspected methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia.
Currently, Caldwell remains free under pretrial conditions as he prepares for the upcoming jury trial on January 21st.
