THURSDAY NIGHT FIRE DESTROYS LARGE BUILDING SOUTHWEST OF FAIRFIELD

Fairfield Rural Fire Department along with mutual aid from Fairfield City Fire, Wayne City Fire Department and Wayne County Ambulance personnel responded to a large structure fire Thursday night just after 8 o’clock at the Chad Chapman residence southwest of Fairfield of IL HWY 15.  Fairfield Rural Fire Department Chief, David Vaughan says upon arrival, the structure, a large metal shed type building was fully involved that contained a 4-wheeler, side-by-side, motorcycle, wood working equipment and other items.  Vaughan says the cold weather conditions made it a challenge fighting the fire as tanker trucks had to haul in water from another location. Firemen were on the scene until about 1 o’clock this (Friday) morning.  Vaughan says the cause of the fire is unknown.  No injuries were reported.
