NEW RESTAURANT TO OPEN IN WEST SALEM

A new homestyle restaurant will be opening soon in West Salem. The Lumberyard, owned and operated by Jason and Brenda Balding and Deryke and Maggie Kirkpatrick will be in the old Southern Illinois Lumber Company building on the West Salem square. Brenda Balding says remodeling is currently underway transforming the building into a restaurant setting. Balding says her daughter, Maggie and son-in-law, Deryke both went to Culinary School at Rend Lake College in Ina and has always wanted to open a restaurant business. Their dream came true when they decided to proceed ahead with the idea when the Village Cafe in West Salem closed in December. Balding says hours will be Monday thru Friday, 6am to 8pm with an all-you-can-eat fish dinner served on Friday nights. Saturday evenings they plan to be open along with serving Sunday noon meals and the time of operation on Saturday and Sunday is yet to be determined.
