Mary Lou Huffer-McBrayer, 98, of Henderson, Kentucky, formerly of Carmi

     Mary Lou Huffer-McBrayer, 98, of Henderson, Kentucky, formerly of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson, Kentucky. She was born on September 1, 1926, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Roy and Mary Magdaline “Maggie” (Simmons) Matthews. Mary married Oscar Earl McBrayer and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2000. Mary worked as a waitress at the Carmi Elks, the Coffee Shop as well as the Carmi Steakhouse. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and playing golf when she was younger.

Mary is survived by her children, Cindy Frymire of Henderson, KY. and Phillip (Kay) Huffer of Enfield, IL; grandchildren, Shonna Riedell of Owensboro, KY,  Michael Fleck of Henderson, KY, Anthony (Staci) Huffer of Carmi, IL. and Heather (John) Brumfiel of Dixon, KY ; great-grandchildren, Isabela Riedell, Sophia Riedell, Connor Riedell, Olivia Riedell, K.T. Fleck, Hailey Fleck, Aiden Fleck, Benjamin (Cassidy) Brumfiel, Hannah Brumfiel, Drew Huffer and Abby Huffer; great-great grandchildren, Evyn Grace and Dean Philip Brumfiel and Lydia Riedell. In addition to her husband, Oscar McBrayer, Mary is preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Elwood “Woody” Huffer; a son, Charlie Matthews; two siblings, Calvin Matthews and Jean Downs; and a son-in-law, Gene Frymire.

A celebration of Life for Mary McBrayer will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Enfield General Baptist Church, in Enfield, Illinois. Private burial will be in Denison Cemetery in Idabel, OK. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, or may be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.
