TRIAL FOR FORMER WAYNE CITY POLICE CHIEF ANSON FENTON DELAYED, PLEA DEAL BEING NEGOTIATED

The trial for former Wayne City Police Chief Anson Fenton, originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th has been postponed to March 24th to allow both parties additional time to negotiate a plea deal. A court docket entry indicates that the delay is necessary for the completion of ongoing negotiations.  A final pretrial hearing was scheduled for today (Tuesday) in East St. Louis.

 

Fenton faces serious charges, including misappropriation of property from a federally funded program and interstate transportation of stolen property in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. He is accused of selling forfeited items which includes two motorcycles and a 1991 Mustang.  He is also accused of interstate transportation of stolen property.   Fenton has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 

If convicted, Fenton could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
