Illinois State Police handled two traffic accidentsThursday on I-57.  Troop 10 units responded to the first accident Thursday morning around 6:20 on I-57 northbound near exit 83 at Ina in Jefferson County.  State Police say a Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer was traveling northbound approaching exit 83 when the outside, driver side tire on the front drive axle blew out causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.  The Truck-Tractor subsequently left the roadway to the left and later re-entered onto the roadway where it overturned onto it’s left side. No injuries were reported.

Then, Thursday afternoon just shortly after 1 O’Clock, State Police responded to I-57 southbound at milepost 71 just south of West City in Franklin County to a report of a two-vehicle accident.  State Police say a Honda Civic was merging onto I-57 southbound at milepost 71 when a Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer unit observed the Honda Civic merging on to the interstate and moved from the right lane to the left lane. The Honda Civic then merged through the open lane and struck the Truck-Tractor with their driver’s side rear quarter panel on the front right fender of the semi.  The Honda Civic then spun out in front of the semi unit before striking the inside concrete median barrier and becoming disabled. No injuries were reported.   Illinois State Police say their investigation into BOTH accidents continue.
