Robert (Bob} Neil Deischer, 91, of rural West Salem, IL passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Saint Anthony’s Hospice in Henderson, KY.

Bob was a lifelong member of the Little Wabash United Methodist Church in rural West Salem, IL; serving as a trustee and in other leadership roles for many years. Bob held many jobs during his young life from farming, to working on oil rigs, to being one of the six original Edwards County Sherriff’s Police Deputies. Bob was the last one remaining of the original six deputies. While being a deputy was his favorite job of all time, he hung up his gun so that he would not miss seeing his son’s baseball and basketball games. In 1974, Bob took the position of school janitor for West Salem Grade School, which made him a co-worker with his wife, who was the school’s secretary. The two would work together for 21 years before both retired in 1995.
All his life, Bob enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, looking for morel mushrooms and searching for arrowheads and other Indian relics. He also enjoyed camping with his family and friends and maintaining a huge garden. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to visit with his son and his family. He was constantly tinkering with things around the house, building many bird houses and feeders. Later in life, he developed a love for jigsaw puzzles.
Bob is survived by his son David and his wife Julie of Cary, IL. Two grandchildren, Robert of Downers Grove, IL and Emily of Cary, IL. Other survivors include a brother, William (Bill) of Aurora, CO and a sister, Doris Nunez of Monument, CO, plus several nieces and nephews.
