WABASH GENERAL HOSPITAL IN MT. CARMEL WARNS PUBLIC REGARDING SCAM ALERT

By Mark Wells Feb 7, 2025 | 11:55 AM

Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel is alerting patients to a series of scam calls that appear to be coming from the hospital. Fraudsters are spoofing the hospital’s phone numbers in an attempt to steal personal information, including Medicare and Social Security numbers.

Patients are reminded that Medicare never initiates calls unexpectedly. If you receive a call that seems suspicious, it is advised to hang up immediately, as these calls are not originating from a legitimate Wabash General Hospital number.

Currently, there are nine types of scams circulating that patients should be wary of:

Claims that new cards invalidate old ones.

Cancellation threats that require “verification.”

Offers for early access to COVID vaccines.

Appointment confirmations for free genetic testing.

Eligibility claims for free medical supplies.

Refunds for overpaid benefits.

Pre-approved plans that seem too good to be true.

Calls from American Senior Benefits.

Senior aid helper scams.

Patients are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls to the appropriate authorities.
