Julie Helene McGill, 60, of Fairfield

By Mark Wells Feb 17, 2025 | 8:46 AM

Fairfield has lost one of its flowers.

Mrs. Julie Helene McGill (1964-2025), a Fairfield, Illinois icon, moved peacefully into her next life on February 13, 2025, at 11:04 AM.

She lovingly said goodbye to her husband, Jimi McGill, her son, Dakota Withrow (Erin & Solstice), her daughter, Torri Withrow, stepdaughters, Michelle, Jamie, Janel, and Laura (Kim) McGill, along with her many grandchildren. She is the daughter of Judith Ann Smith of White County and the late Chalmer Harris of Evansville, IN. She is the sister of Joe, Paula, Teresa, Sue (Davis), David, and Patrick Harris.

Julie had the rare gift of making life colorful. She effortlessly added beauty and flair to the everyday. Her knack for bringing people together created welcome spaces for artists, locals, and anyone considered a little off-beat. You may remember Julie as the owner of Jemini Coffee House, a lifeguard for the Leo French pool, a track-star for the Fairfield Mules (1978-1982), a kitchen designer at Kincaid’s, or as the co-builder and designer of their multi-building home along Highway 45, McGillville. Long after spaces evolve, her family and friends will remember Julie for her thoughtfulness, wit, grace, and love for life (as well as a good party). She wasn’t afraid of taking chances and she always chose a path with a heart.

In accord with Julie’s wishes, her earthly body will be cremated. A visitation will be held from 10-12 on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home with a service to follow. A celebration of life (a good party) will be held at Jim and Julie’s Church of Forgiveness and home at a future date. In lieu of sending cut flowers, please consider making a donation for a bench at the Leo French Park, poolside, in celebration and in memory of Julie and her love for this community. Donations can be made out to Jim McGill and can be dropped off at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home, Carnaby Square, or mailed to 115 East Main Street.
