Eldon Ray Niccum, 90, of Fairfield, IL passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Fairfield Senior Living in Fairfield, IL. Eldon was born July 16, 1934, in Sims, IL to Ottis & Elsie (Miller) Niccum.
Eldon married Marilyn Phillips of Burnt Prairie, IL on November 10, 1961. They shared 63 wedding anniversaries together along with many wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren.
Eldon began work as an auto mechanic at his Dad’s auto repair shop in Sims. In 1957, Eldon served in the US Army at Fort Sill Oklahoma for two years and the Army Reserves for an additional four years. Upon his return from his service at Fort Sill, Eldon went to work for Williams-Harshbarger Oldsmobile in Fairfield for a number of years. Following his time at Williams-Harshbarger, Eldon worked at the Fairfield Post Office for over 25 years. After retiring from the post office, Eldon had the opportunity to pursue his love of auto mechanics again and worked at Jerry’s Auto Repair in Fairfield for several more years.
Eldon loved life and enjoyed spending time with his family. His desire to serve others was evident in all that he did for his family, friends, and the community. In his free time, Eldon enjoyed gardening, watching St Louis Cardinal baseball games and spending time with his grandsons.
Eldon was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a daughter Susan (Dan) Haak of West Dundee, IL; a son Roger (Jenni) Niccum of Fairfield; grandsons Adam & Noah Haak of West Dundee and step grandson Daniel Magnuson of Fairfield.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Legg and Marilyn Green as well as an infant sister.
Services for Eldon Ray Niccum will be held at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with visitation on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City with Military Honors provided by Anthony Wayne Post 176, American Legion and Wayne Memorial Post 4535.
