Larry David Schnicker, Sr., 77, of McLeansboro

Larry David Schnicker, Sr., 77, of McLeansboro, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 10:30 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

He was born as a twin in Dahlgren, IL to Gene & Katherine Schnicker on October 19, 1947.  He married Betty May Schnicker, who survives.

Larry was a member of Middle Creek Missionary Baptist Church near Dahlgren.  When he was a boy, he loved playing basketball.  As an adult, he worked as a plastic operator for a manufacturing company in South Elgin.  He enjoyed farming, painting, and mowing cemeteries.  He was a good Christian who loved to help people.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Schnicker of McLeansboro, son Larry Schnicker, Jr. of McLeansboro, daughter Robin (Shane) Fitzwater of West Frankfort, two grandsons: Jonathan Rakas and Nicholas Rakas, three granddaughters: Nichole (Dalton) Yates, Jerika Rakas, and Jaclyn Rakas, two great-grandsons: Maverik Kolaski and Emmitt Yates, brother Mike Schnicker of Mt. Vernon, two sisters Olive (Larry) Thomas of Enfield and Tina (Tom) White of Keenes, and sister-in-law Joyce Schnicker of Dahlgren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Gene & Katherine Schnicker, brother Paul Schnicker, sister Vera Fisher, and his beloved twin brother, Jerry Franklin Schnicker, who preceded him in death by only 54 days.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, his body will be cremated and the family will hold a private burial of ashes at a later date.  Gholson Funeral Home of Dahlgren is assisting the family with arrangements.
