The Wabash County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an overturned Republic garbage truck Monday afternoon just after 1:30 at 2306 E 1200 Rd., Allendale, on the section of Bridgeport Blacktop north of Highway 11. The 911 caller indicated that the truck had rolled down an embankment and that the driver was initially unaccounted for.

As emergency units were en route, the caller updated that the driver had been located approximately 30 yards north of the crash site in a wooded area. Upon investigation, it was determined that the garbage truck was traveling northbound on E 1200 Rd. when it veered off the right shoulder while navigating the “S” curves. The truck subsequently overturned, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

Emergency crews worked to stabilize the driver, identified as 40-year-old Jason A. Miller from Olney, before transporting him up the embankment to the Wabash General Ambulance. The ambulance then relocated to the parking lot of Weber Seed Service, where a landing zone was established for StatFlight. Miller was airlifted to a hospital in the Evansville area, suffering from major injuries.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash General Ambulance Service and Allendale Rural Fire Protection District.  The roadway remained closed until around 8 p.m., and the northbound lane was also temporarily shut down during cleanup operations. No citations were issued in connection with the incident.
