Later this month will mark the 100th anniversary of the Tri State Tornado of 1925 that struck southeast Illinois,as well as parts of southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana. The tornado struck on March 18th, and impacted several communities, including West Frankfort, Murphysboro and Crossville. Murphysboro was the hardest hit community, with thousands of buildings destroyed and nearly 300 people killed.
The Jackson County Historical Society is hosting several events to commemorate the anniversary March 13th through 18th. They will include an interactive exhibit, historical marker presentations, and a live discussion with the National Weather Service.
