An arrest warrant has been issued for convicted serial killer Bruce Mendenhall in relation to the brutal slaying of an Alabama woman in 2007. Mendenhall, 73, from Albion, is facing murder charges linked to the death of Lucille “Gretna” Carter, a 44-year-old transient whose body was found on Finley Boulevard in Birmingham on July 1st, 2007.

Carter had been shot in the back of the head and was discovered with a plastic bag taped around her neck. Chief Deputy District Attorney Joe Roberts says that the warrant was issued as officials work to locate Carter’s relatives. Roberts added that the goal is to discuss the case with the family before proceeding with an extradition request.

On March 2nd, Mendenhall was sentenced to 65 years in prison after an Indianapolis jury convicted him of the murder of Carma Purpura. This sentence adds to the life sentences he is already serving for the murders of Samantha D. Winters in Lebanon, Tennessee, and Sara Nichole Hulbert in Nashville, Tennessee.

Additionally, Mendenhall received a 30-year sentence for attempting to hire an inmate to kill Nashville detective Pat Postiglione, the detective responsible for his original arrest. Currently, Mendenhall is being held at the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis, awaiting either a transfer to an Indiana penitentiary or extradition to Alabama for his fourth murder trial.
