FREELAND REACHES SWEET 16
Former Wayne City High School All-State athlete, LeAnn Freeland-Curry, is in her 13th year as Head Basketball Coach at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She just coached her team to the Sweet-16 of the Women’s NCAA Division II Tournament. They lost their third round game to Union University of Tennessee 65-60 to finish the season at 25-6.
Freeland-Curry has had tremendous success at Nova Southeastern. Over the last ten years, the Sharks earned four trips to the NCAA Elite 8. This feat ties two other NCAA DII teams for the most Elite 8 appearances in the last decade. After her playing days at Wayne City High School, where her jersey is retired, Freeland-Curry played at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. She ended her playing career as the most decorated player in Southern Indiana history. She was named First Team Division II All-American three times, GLVC Player of the Year twice, and was inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame. She led the Screaming Eagles to the 1997 NCAA Division II Championship game.
