Several area fire departments and EMS providers will be receiving much-needed equipment upgrades thanks to the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Small Equipment Grant Program.
A total of $4 million was distributed among 178 departments statewide, with awards capped at $26,000 each. The program aims to help departments purchase smaller but essential equipment that might otherwise be financially out of reach.
Area departments receiving grants include:
Wayne County Ambulance Service: $24,162.07
Wayne Fire Protection District No. 1: $26,000
Shawneetown Fire Department (Gallatin County): $26,000
Enfield Fire Protection District (White County): $26,000
Village of Crossville Fire Department: $22,065.06
Norris City Fire Protection District: $25,346
Effingham Fire Department: $10,999.20
The high demand for the program was evident, with 347 applications requesting nearly double the available funding. To qualify, departments had to meet specific criteria, including participation in the National Fire Incident Reporting System.
