The competition is heating up as the “Makers Madness” contest enters its final round, and Carmi’s very own Elastec, creators of the ROV Skimmer (Remote Operated Oil Skimmer), are still in the running for the coveted title of “Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.”

This bracket-style tournament, hosted by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association, saw nearly 55,000 votes cast in the previous round alone, showcasing the public’s enthusiasm for the ingenuity found across the state. The winner will be announced on April 9th, but not before a nail-biting finish.

Standing alongside the ROV Skimmer in the top 4 are some impressive contenders: the Aerial Firefighting Helicopter Refill Pumps from MTH Pumps in Plano, the Joint Combined Aircrew Systems Tester crafted by Chemring Energetic Devices in Downers Grove, and Donor Milk, a life-giving product from Mother’s Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes in Elk Grove Village.

The “Makers Madness” contest, presented by Comcast Business, celebrates the diverse and innovative spirit of manufacturers across Illinois. This year, over 250 unique products were nominated, highlighting the impressive range of craftsmanship found within the state.
