The National Weather Service in Paducah says a FLOOD WATCH remains in effect this (Wednesday) afternoon through Sunday morning for all of Southern Illinois, Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky and Southeast Missouri. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Extensive street
flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Multiple rounds of locally heavy rainfall over several days will result in extreme forecast amounts of up to 1 foot of rain that will cause the risk of flash flooding and flooding to rise markedly and create a particularly dangerous flooding situation. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for Flash Flood and Flood Warnings. Be prepared to take action when flooding develops as this will be a particularly dangerous situation.
Also, a WIND ADVISORY is in effect from 7am until Midnight tonight . Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Skillet Fork River at Wayne City from late Thursday night to late Saturday evening
The first round of what will be many repeat rounds of heavy rain heading into the weekend. The heavy rain is forecast to cause the Skillet Fork River to rise above flood stage.
At 15 feet, minor flooding occurs affecting mainly bottomland and surrounding low lying areas. At 11:00 AM Tuesday, the stage was 9.5 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Friday morning to a crest of 16.7 feet early Saturday morning. Additional rises with more rainfall are possible.This crest compares to a previous crest of 16.7 feet on December 23rd, 2013.
